I was trying to think of a way to learn Italian without having to pay for a subscription. It got me thinking about games and how games online can be very interactive as well as educational. I thought there must be some games out there on the internet that are centered around learning Italian... so I opened up Google and started searching. Of course, it did not take me long to find an amazing site called Digital Dialects that has a whole section on learning Italian. I was so amazed as I looked at all the categories they offered and I didn't even know where to start! I started thinking about what I have learnt so far, common phrases, numbers, as well as drinks. While looking at the categories, I became very drawn to the colour category since I haven't learnt anything about colours. I didn't know what to expect as I opened up the category, but was blown away once it loaded. When you click the headset beside the word, it will pronounce the word out loud for you so you can hear what it sounds like and try it out yourself. I spent quite some time going through all the colours until I was able to pronounce them properly. I noticed that there was an option for an audio game at the bottom and though why not give it a try! There were simple instructions at the beginning. The voice over would say the colour in Italian and I would have to click the correct colour that was said. At first it seemed pretty simple, but then the voice over began adding colours as the levels increased. At first I was getting one colour at a time, then it increased to two, then three! Trying to remember all three colours that were said plus identifying which colours they actually were was quite challenging! I had a lot of fun playing this game and ended up getting 90% (Woohoo)! I felt extremely accomplished after finishing that section that I wanted to try more!! So, I went back to the main category page and saw that there was an animal section, I hadn't learnt anything about animals so I was ready to dive into it. Again, I was very impressed after entering the category as there were so many different animals that were listed. I spent a lot of time going through each one learning the correct pronunciation. After thoroughly going through them all, I decided to put my learning to the test! The questions on the quiz consisted of pictures of the animals along with three different words, in order to proceed to the next question, I had to answer correctly. The quiz went through almost every animal listed and I ended up getting a 90% on this one too!! I was feeling beyond accomplished! My experience with Digital Dialects was amazing and I can honestly say this has been my favorite resource so far! It was free, it was informative, it tested your knowledge, and the amount of categories available was unreal. I felt as though I learnt more from this site than I have any of the apps that you need to pay a membership fee for. I would highly recommend using this site if you are trying to learn a language. I cannot wait to continue using this resource throughout my learning.
